What Is The Protein Shake Diet?

I am such a huge fan of protein shake diets. I absolutely love them for numerous reasons and I have been doing them for a very long time to get in shape right before summer and try to look my best. But first I want to talk about why protein shake diets are so awesome and then give you a great program to go by if this is something you want to use to lose belly fat fast.

One reason why protein shake diets are great because they are so easy to do. I mean think about it. You have nothing to cook, you don’t have to worry about food, counting calories, going to the supermarket, packing your foods, and preparing your food every Sunday and Wednesday. With protein shake diets all you have to do is plan out your diet beforehand to see how many calories each scoop of protein powder has and that’s it. It’s simple, quick, easy and effective.

Another great thing about this type of diet is it changes your relationship with food on a mental basis. A lot of people have a love hate relationship with food. They also are addicted to certain foods without even knowing it. By going on a protein shake diet, you are essentially resetting all of those switches inside of your brain and how it relates to food. The funny thing that you will find is that you start craving healthy foods such as salads, vegetables and chicken. I swear to God this happens and I don’t know why. I always experience it and it’s pretty neat to notice and go through.

Also what I like about this diet is since you’ll be getting a lot of your calories in a liquid form, you give your digestive system a needed break. The digestive system is always working and every time you eat, your body has to devote a tremendous amount of energy to break down all that food. And if you’re eating the wrong types of foods and even supposedly health foods like wheat bread, you are doing a lot of harm to your insides. You can be causing a ton of inflammatory responses inside of your body that cause a cascade of events and health problems later down the line. You’ll notice that you have more energy, you need less sleep, you wake up with a hop in your step, you’re more alert throughout the day and just feel overall much “lighter” on your feet. This is because you body does not need to devote a ton of energy to digestion anymore.

However there are some drawbacks to this diet that you need to take care of. The first is that this diet is very bland nutrient wise. You won’t be getting all of your daily vitamins and minerals because you’ll just be drinking protein shakes all day. You need some healthy fats and greens. But don’t worry because this is easily avoidable. Just go and purchase some form of greens powder and fish oil. I don’t care what type of greens powder you get or what type of fish oil. However I would say that the lower quality the fish oil, the more you will have to take to get the most benefit. For example if you buy CVS brand, this is the brand that I have, you will need to take around 5-10 grams a day. Now if you go with a more expensive brand that has a higher concentration of DHA and EPA then you won’t need to take as many capsules throughout the day. You might only need 1-3 depending on how much DHA and EPA there is in each serving.

Now with regards to what is the best protein powder for weight loss and this diet, I would stick with a casein protein powder or a blend of whey and casein. Both types of proteins are awesome, but they do certain things. For example whey protein digests really quickly. Depending on the purity it can be 15 minutes to 2 hours. Whey however will leave you feeling pretty hungry in a short amount of time. There isn’t much substance to the stuff.

Now with casein protein powder, it digests between 4-8 hours and again that depends on the quality and the type that you buy. It’s much thicker in consistency and will leave you feeling fuller for a longer period of time.

Here is a good breakdown to use for a protein shake diet to lose belly fat:

Meal 1: 1 scoop of protein blend with 2 capsules of fish oil, 1 tsp of greens and 1 tbs of flax seeds

Meal 2: 1 scoop of protein blend with 2 capsules of fish oil

Meal 3: 2 scoops of protein powder, 2 fish oil capsules, 1 tsp of greens and 1 tbs of flax seeds

Meal 4: 2 scoops of protein powder, 2 fish oil capsules

Meal 5: 1 scoop of protein powder, 1 tbs of organic peanut butter, 1 tbs of flax seeds

And there you have it. An easy to follow protein shake diet that is guaranteed to help your drop some belly fat in a short amount of time. Just remember to get your greens supplement and fish oil to help fill any holes nutrient wise in your diet. Also the organic peanut butter helps with the fatty acid profile of your diet and tastes like candy. Trust me after doing this diet, you have never had peanut butter that will taste this good ever before in your life.
